The Evil Within 2 is due to release in a matter of weeks and with the slightly confusing and enticing ending to the first game, it’ll be interesting to see where the series goes. Recent developments suggest that a port to the Nintendo Switch may be in the works for the new horror series.
In an exclusive interview with Gamespot, Shinji Mikani (director for The Evil Within) said ‘I think a Switch version would be interesting. I want to try it if I had the chance.’ A port to the switch would indeed be interesting especially considering the overall success of the console itself.
The Evil Within is being developed by Bethesda and considering their willingness to port other games of theirs to the Switch could bode well for The Evil Within. Bethesda has already announced highly popular games such as The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, Doom, and Wolfenstein will be receiving Switch make-overs in the future. Possibly if The Evil Within sequel does well we could possibly be seeing a similar situation.
It is understandable why Mikani would like to see a Switch version of The Evil Within as within its first four months of release the Switch has been able to sell over 4.7 million units worldwide, according to Nintendo’s figures. The console has been able to reach a wide audience and perhaps a different demographic to those who would normally play consoles, therefore a Switch version is likely to reach a wider audience.
Even Pokemon Company CEO, Tsunekazu Ishihare originally had ‘told Nintendo that Switch wouldn’t be a success before it went on sale,’ while admitting that he ‘was obviously wrong,’ about the potential of the console. Now that Pokemon has announced an installment coming to the Switch, it is a testament to the success of the console and one that may be keen to capitalize on. The Evil Within doesn’t seem to be any different in this regard.
We are now weeks away until the release of The Evil Within 2 and with it the possibility of it appearing next to the beloved console. Due to the success of the first game, the lowest score coming from Polygon with a 6.5/10, there is every possibility we will see The Evil Within come to the Switch in the future.
The Evil Within 2 will be releasing on the 13th of October to PS4, Xbox One and PC.
