Nintendo held their annual E3 Direct to conclude the presentation portion of their conference. The Direct featured some heavy hitters and some surprise announcements — here’s a full recap of the Nintendo Direct for E3 2019.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Sequel
Release Date: TBA
The surprise announcement of the Direct — The Legend of Zelda series is getting a new entry, a direct sequel to 2017’s critically acclaimed Breath of the Wild. Not much information was given outside of this teaser, other than that the game is now in development.
Fighter Announcements for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
New characters have been announced for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The first is the Dragon Quest character pack featuring the Hero as the new character. Alternate skins allow the Hero to take the form of a number of the main playable characters from throughout the Dragon Quest series. The second new fighter has waited a long time to return to Nintendo consoles — Banjo-Kazooie, from the franchise of the same name.
Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition
Release Date: September 27, 2019
The latest mainline entry in the Dragon Quest franchise is getting a port for Nintendo Switch. This definitive edition comes with bonus character-specific stories, additional monster mounts, side quests, and the option to speed-up battle sequences.
Luigi’s Mansion 3
Release Date: Holiday 2019
The third installment in the cult-classic series, Luigi’s Mansion 3 builds upon its predecessors. The game features new combat mechanics and a new mode called ScareScraper where you race against a timer to clear objectives across floors with 7 other players.
Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics
Release Date: Q4 2019
Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics is a tie-in to the Netflix series, which in-turn is based off a movie from the 80s. Age of Resistance Tactics is a turn-based strategy game exploring the events of the upcoming show. It will introduce new characters, stories, and environments.
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Remake
Release Date: September 20, 2019
This title is a remake of the original The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening that was released on the Gameboy. Sporting a new art-style, new music, and new features (like the create-a-dungeon mode), the game tries to do something new while remaining faithful to its source material.
Trials of Mana
Release Date: Early 2020
Two things were announced for Mana series fans: a collection of all 3 installments, available now, and a full-HD remake of the third game, Trials of Mana.
The Witcher 3 Switch Port
Release Date: 2019
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is getting a switch port, coming with all previously released DLC.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Release Date: July 26, 2019
The Direct trailer reveals story details for the first mainline Fire Emblem game on the Switch. Expect a ton of plot, choices, and permadeath — all of which are staples in the Fire Emblem franchise.
Multiple Resident Evil Switch Ports
Capcom are releasing ports for mainline Resident Evil titles on the Switch — Resident Evil 0, 1, and 4 are available now, while Resident Evil 5, and 6 will drop in Fall 2019.

In Platinum Games‘ Astral Chain, you take control of an Officer who is part of a special task force armed with technology called Legions. You can change your Legion to alter your playstyle and pull off different combos.
Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order
Release Date: July 19, 2019
Announced as an exclusive for the Nintendo Switch, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 lets players control their favourite Marvel heroes in order to combat the Black Order. An Expansion Pass was also revealed for Fall 2019, a bundle of upcoming DLC promised for the game, including the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, and the Marvel Knights.
Cadence of Hyrule
Release Date: June 13, 2019
Brace Yourself Games, known for Crypt of the Necrodancer, finally got the chance to show off their newest title that was announced earlier this year. Cadence of Hyrule allows you to play as the titular hero Cadence, or as Link and Zelda from The Legend of Zelda series, in order to defeat an evil menace while moving to the beat.
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020
Release Date: November 2019
This entry in the Mario & Sonic series takes us to the latest venue for the Summer Olympics, Tokyo, featuring the usual Olympic events and four new ones: Skateboarding, Karate, Surfing, and Sport Climbing (which are the new events for the Tokyo 2020 games).
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Release Date: March 20, 2020
The last Animal Crossing had the player become mayor of their own town. In New Horizons, you’ll start anew on a deserted island with only your wits and Tom Nook. The new installment features new mechanics like crafting, vaulting over rivers, and a newer, more refined decoration system. Originally announced for 2019, it has been delayed to 2020.
