It was recently announced that Dead Island 2 is still in development during a THQ Nordic interim report. Lars Wingefors, the CEO, listed Dead Island 2 was one of the game in development during his presentation. Wingefors commented,“Dead Island 2, still being worked on. Stay Tuned”.
Do you remember Dead Island 2? If not, I don’t blame you. It was revealed during E3 in 2014 in a goofy cinematic trailer that showed an oblivious man running past people getting eaten alive by zombies. As the trailer progressed, all of the people on screen had turned, and were run over by two guys in a van. The trailer received high praise and people began craving gameplay footage.
Later in August of the same year, some gameplay was showcased at Gamescom. It showed off a vibrant, post-apocalyptic take of California. The gory gameplay also gave us a look at some killing mechanics, with customizable weaponry. A few months later in September, another gameplay demo was shown at EGX. It brought us footage of new multiplayer gameplay, supporting up to 8 players. It was announced that it was under development by Yager Development, and published by Deep Silver (a subsidiary for THQ Nordic).
In 2015, Deep Silver and Yager had announced that they were parting ways. At the time, this meant that Dead Island 2 was no longer in development. Luckily Sumo Digital had picked it up a year later, and have since then been developing it. No other news for the game has been reported, and no release date has been set.
