To commemorate the release of the long-awaited Crackdown 3, Microsoft and developer Realtime Worlds are re-releasing the original Crackdown on Xbox One… for free! Using Microsoft’s extensive backwards-compatibility support, you can hop over to the Microsoft store and download it for either Xbox 360 or Xbox One.
Crackdown seemingly came out of nowhere back in 2007. With a super-hero-themed, futuristic open-world, it sold more than 1 million copies back on the Xbox 360. In the years since, it’s been claimed as one Microsoft’s best exclusives. Despite that, the 2nd game wasn’t nearly as much of a hit. It had a major change in theme, from a superhero game to a zombie-fighting game.
Crackdown 3 seeks to go back to the original’s tone, but with destructible environments, a la Fortnite or Rainbow Six Siege. However, some who have had time with Crackdown 3 claim that it feels a bit like an old-school open-world game. Even so, we’re still cautiously excited to get our hands on Crackdown 3 when it release on February 15.
