Crackdown 3, initially slated for a release date on November 7th 2017, is receiving a delayed release. According to a Polygon interview with Shannon Loftis, the Microsoft Studios Publishing general manager, the latest Crackdown installment needs more development time.
Loftis is quoted remarking that “we want to make sure to deliver the right game, with the right quality, and at the right time.” You can see the rest of Polygon’s exchange with Loftis here. The gist is that Crackdown 3 has a lot to accomplish, including being among the first 4K launch titles for the Xbox One X. Evidently, the developers or publishers desire a polished, issue-free release.
Crackdown 3’s delay will be a major blow to gamers everywhere who like shiny green holograms
The implications of Crackdown 3’s delay are not entirely apparent at the moment. The Xbox One X is being released in the midst of holiday shopping season, and Crackdown 3 was expected to be the chief launch title of the console, and Microsoft’s biggest exclusive of the holiday season. Either the game was in poor shape indeed to be delayed, or there was concern that, as some have suggested, there would be too much competition with the other AAA titles releasing during the holiday shopping window.
This is Terry’s “why did you have to delay the game” face
Whatever the case, Crackdown 3 is now expected to release in the Spring of 2018. There is no firm release date set as of yet. The Xbox One X is maintaining its November 7th release date, and is available for pre-order now. It will be the first dedicated 4K console.
