The much anticipated May 9th State of Play didn’t disappoint at all. The 13 minute livestream gave us a look at Predator: Hunting Grounds, the MediEvil Remake, the Final Fantasy VII Remake, and the Monster Hunter: World expansion. They also showed off newcomers Riverbond and AWAY: The Survival Series.
AWAY is described as a “3rd-person adventure game that takes you on the Sugar Glider’s breathtaking journey into the wild. As cataclysmic storms bear down on the planet, immerse yourself in nature and explore a vibrant world brimming with life, but beware of the dangers that lie ahead.”
Breaking Walls, founded by the folks at Ubisoft Montreal, has been developing AWAY for the past 3 years. The developers at Breaking Walls have previously worked on titles such as Assassin’s Creed, Prince of Persia, and Far Cry. The trailer shows running and gliding mechanics, as well as a plethora of different animals. AWAY will release on PS4 and Steam, and a VR teaser was also released back in 2017. However, the @AwaySeries twitter account stated, “We’re mainly focusing on developing for PC and console right now, and hope to release a VR version later on”.
The Sugar Glider
Breaking Walls has also teased a few gameplay details regarding the playable Sugar Glider. “Sitting near the bottom of the food chain, the Sugar Glider makes up for its small size with superior agility as you jump, climb, and glide through your surroundings”.
