With the games’ November 15 release date edging ever closer, details of Pokémon Sword & Shield are slowly trickling out. This week, fans were given yet another taste of things to come with the reveal of a new Pokémon – Sirfetch’d, the Galar-exclusive evolution of Farfetch’d.
Earlier this week, The Pokémon Company began teasing the new Pokémon with a playful Easter egg on the official Pokémon website. Visitors to the site’s front page would be greeted by a small visual glitch, which would evade their cursor whenever they attempted to click on it. When the user finally succeeded in catching the image, they would then be redirected to a partial Pokédex entry. Naturally, speculation abounded across social media surrounding the exact nature of the new creature.
Shortly afterwards, The Pokémon Company officially confirmed that the obscure image was, in fact, the new Pokémon Sirfetch’d. An evolution of the First-Generation Pokémon Farfetch’d, this new Wild Duck Pokémon fights with its characteristic leek sword and shield, features appropriate for the new titles. According to the newly-unobscured Pokédex entry, “only Farfetch’d that have survived many battles can attain this evolution. When this Pokémon’s leek withers, it will retire from combat.”

Unlike the Galar variants of Pokémon announced previously, which will appear in both game versions, Sirfetch’d will be found exclusively in Pokémon Sword. It is likely that version-specific Pokémon will be revealed for Pokémon Shield as the release date draws closer.
