With so many fantastic games releasing this year, it only makes sense that things would begin to wind down. While November 2019 may not be filled to the brim with anticipated titles, it still has plenty to offer. Whether you want a casual party game or an action-packed adventure, you can find something for you in the November 2019 line-up. Not sure what to keep your eye on? Well, as usual, we’ve got you covered with five great games releasing this November 2019.
1. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020
The jumping plumber and speeding blue hedgehog head back to the Olympics in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. Now in the land of the rising sun, the franchise has taken its classic party-game structure and turned it up to become the most ambitious title yet.
As usual, you can play as a variety of characters from both the Mario and Sonic series while competing in classic Olympic events, along with a selection of Dream events. With new inclusions like skateboarding, karate, and surfing, there seems to be a sport for everyone to enjoy. What sets this game apart from its predecessors comes from the new 2D mode, which has you play classic 2D events using the original 8-bit and 16-bit sprites of each character. Overall, if you’re looking for a fun and entertaining party game to enjoy with friends, this should scratch that itch. Go for the gold when Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 releases for the Nintendo Switch in the US on November 5th and in Europe on November 8th.
2. Death Stranding
Metal Gear Solid director Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding has been quite the enigma since its initial announcement. With every trailer and news update came more questions than answers. From what we can tell, the game seems to focus on open-world exploration and story progression. However, Kojima has stated that this game sets to create a whole genre for video games.
We sadly don’t know much about the plot either. You seem to follow a man named Sam Porter, played by Norman Reedus, in a world where isolation has fragmented society. It falls on Sam to unite civilization and forge connections with those he meets. Similar to Sam, a majority of the cast for the game features celebrity appearances such as Mads Mikkelsen, Guillermo del Toro, and Conan O’Brien. Whatever this title turns out to be, the pedigree behind it gives us high expectations. Look forward to experiencing what Kojima has entailed for you when Death Stranding releases for PS4 on November 8th.
3. Pokémon Sword and Shield
Pokémon Sword and Shield have gotten their fair share of criticism. From not including a National Pokédex to the relatively simple-looking graphics, to say these entries were controversial would be an understatement. Still, from what we’ve seen and heard regarding the games, both titles will likely push the Pokémon franchise to new heights.
The premise stays mostly the same as most mainline Pokémon games; you play as a new trainer who sets on taking on eight Gyms and become the champion. What the games lack in story, however, they excel in new gameplay features. Most notably, players can enter the new Wild Area, which provides a more open-world experience as opposed to the normal linear structure of the series. Furthermore, the inclusion of Max Raid Battles, PokéJobs, and Dynamaxing flesh out the content available. Prepare to become a PokémonMaster when Pokémon Sword and Shield release for the Nintendo Switch on November 15th.
4. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Chances are if you like video games, then you also like Star Wars. If you like Star Wars, then Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order might just be up your alley. Set a few years after Revenge of the Sith, this action-adventure game follows one of the last remaining Jedi, Cal Kestis, as he travels across the galaxy while on the run from the Empire and their mission to eradicate every last Jedi Knight.
Throughout the game, you’ll play through expansive levels based on both new and old words from the Star Wars Universe. As Cal, you can use both your Lightsaber and Force powers to take down enemies in fast-paced combat that looks so satisfying. What makes this title most exciting is that it focuses on story-based single-player gameplay, something that fans have wanted to return for quite some time. Needless to say, the Star Wars Franchise excels in creating exciting narratives, so this type of genre blend goes hand in hand with video games. Get ready to explore a galaxy far far away when Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order releases for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on November 15th.
5. Google Stadia
Okay, so this isn’t technically a game, but it plays games so it counts… right? All joking aside, Google Stadia has caught the eyes of many within the gaming community, mostly due to the sheer curiosity of how its all-digital streaming premise will turn out. As the name implies, Google Stadia claims to be capable of providing a quality gaming experience on a wide variety of devices including smartphones and tablets, along with the standard televisions and computers. In short, if it can run a Chrome browser, it can likely run Stadia.
While this all sounds well and good, some fear the limitations that come with this type of service. For starters, you’ll need to have and maintain a fairly strong internet connection to run games at peak performance. You’ll also have to purchase most of the games at retail price on top of the $10 subscription fee if you wish to go for the pro tier. Still, this new concept of game streaming does provide a new way to enjoy games for those who can’t afford pricy consoles. While we can’t say for sure how Google will affect the gaming industry long-term, we can say that it has gathered some strong titles, such as Destiny 2, The Elder Scrolls Online, and Final Fantasy XV to name a few. We’ll see how the world of gaming takes Google Stadia when it launches on November 19th.
