Pokémon fans everywhere rejoiced as The Pokémon Company and Game Freak revealed new information on Pokémon Sword and Shield in Tuesday’s Pokémon Direct. Up until now, we knew very little about these games, as the last bit of information came from the initial reveal back in February. Fortunately, yesterday’s presentation featured some major topics such as the Dynamax mechanic, new Pokémon, Max Raid Battles, and more.
With that said, the Pokémon Direct revealed a couple of new features which we will detail in this article. Avid fans knew to check the Official Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield Website for even more information. But what about the fans who didn’t think to do this? Not to worry, as we’ll go over some big information that wasn’t discussed.
1. The Rotom Phone
That’s right, everyone’s favorite annoying companion returns for the newest set of Pokémon games. This time, Rotom takes the form of the Rotom Phone, a smart-phone-like device that will serve multiple purposes. For instance, players will access the Pokédex from here. The Rotom phone can also enhance items such as the bike, giving it the ability to move faster and travel over water. Any additional features are currently unknown, but the chances are that Rotom will have more in store. Hopefully, he won’t bug us as often.
2. The Dynamax Band
Something that was revealed during the Direct was the newest gameplay feature for Sword and Shield: The Dynamax Phenomenon. When activated, Dynamaxing increases the power and size of your Pokémon exponentially. How do you activate it? Well by using the Dynamax Band. Similar to the Mega Bracelet and Z-Ring, this item allows you to use the Dynamax mechanic during battle. Whether or not your Pokémon have to hold a specific item along with this requirement is unknown. Hopefully, we’ll learn more about Dynamax in general soon.
3. Pokémon Types And Abilities
One of the best highlights from any Pokémon reveal comes from the Pokémon that debut during said reveal. While we did receive a few new Pokémon during the Direct, little was shown about them besides their names and 3D models. Luckily, the Sword and Shield site goes into further detail. We now know the types and abilities of most of the new Pokémon, which are listed below:
Gossifleur: Type: Grass, Ability: Cotton Down/Regenerator
Eldegross: Type: Grass, Ability: Cotton Down/Regenerator
Wooloo: Type: Normal, Ability: Fluffy/Run Away
Corviknight: Type: Flying/Steel, Ability: Pressure/Unerve
Drednaw: Type: Water/Rock, Ability: Strong Jaw/Shell Armor
Unfortunately, the Typings of the new Legendary Pokémon, Zacian and Zamazenta, remain unknown as of now. Chances are that we’ll discover this later on in future news reveals, along with more new Pokémon that will debut in Sword and Shield.
