The gaming industry has been abuzz with the recent news that Google will be announcing something at this year’s GDC. Combine that with rumors surfacing regarding some sort of Google console in the works, and you have yourself a recipe that could heavily impact the current state of gaming. Could this new console hold its own against the major juggernauts of the industry? Well, one thing is for certain, Google will get nowhere if it doesn’t bring some quality games to it’s console. But what games can we expect? We’re not certain, but we do have a few predictions that seem like safe bets to show up on this system.
Minecraft seems like an obvious choice to include. The building game has and still continues to have a large presence on the gaming world. While Microsoft currently owns the IP, this hasn’t stopped Minecraft from showing up on other systems. Heck, it’s even on the 3DS! Also, Microsoft has recently began to show signs of partnering with direct competitors like Nintendo, therefore working with Google wouldn’t sound completely outlandish. It seems extremely possible that both companies can strike a deal to include this revolutionary gaming franchise on Google’s newest console. Despite what some might think, Google and Microsoft are both ultimately businesses, so bringing Minecraft to the console should come as no surprise. Google would draw in more customers with a popular IP, and Microsoft would draw in more revenue by adding said IP to another platform. To put it bluntly, Google should probably make this happen.
2. Assassin’s Creed
Ubisoft has shown a past of collaborating with Google. Just last year, the two partnered together to include Assassin’s Creed Odyssey on Google’s Project Stream, which allowed people essentially play the game through a Google Chrome browser. When you take this into consideration, the idea of Ubisoft bringing Assasin’s Creed to their latest console feels likely. Whether this will be in the form of a port or a completely new game still reamins to be seen, but chances are high that Assassin’s Creed will show up on the Google gaming console in some form. Not to mention the rumors that Ubisoft has already become a partner with Google to support the console. Yeah, Assassin’s Creed on a Google console feels like a solid guess.
3. Sonic The Hedgehog
What sounds like the most unlikely choice on this list could actually be the opposite. Soon after the reveal of Google’s upcoming event, information surfaced that could suggest that SEGA would be a major partner for this upcoming console. With that in mind, the possibility of seeing SEGA games appearing on Google’s new console suddenly seem plausible. In fact, it makes so much sense that we feel that SEGA could be bringing their blue blur Sonic for the ride. The Sonic The Hedgehog series has seen its ups and downs to say the least. However, none can deny that the speedster has an enormous following. If rumors are to be believed, then it makes perfect sense from a strategic standpoint to add Sonic to the system. Adding a Sonic game that would exclusively appear on the Google console would draw in plenty of fans that would definitely boost sales.
